Telok Ayer is located in Singapore’s Chinatown within the Outram district. During the early days of Singapore, it was originally an area set aside by Sir Stamford Raffles for the Chinese community which formed the backbone of development of the Chinese immigrant community. The Malay name refers to “bay water” because these streets used to be the coastal road along the bay. Today, the entire bay area lies on reclaimed land and these office towers in the background are the Singapore’s central business district area.
